Viral Growth Patterns in an Iris Organ Culture System

David N. Tucker, MD; Albert Z. Kapikian, MD

Arch Ophthalmol. 1969;82(3):372-376.

Abstract

An organ culture system utilizing rabbit iris tissue was successfully developed. Growth of herpes simplex, vaccinia, and vesicular stomatitis virus was supported in this system for varying periods of time. The possible value of this virological system to the etiologic problem of human "viral" iritis is discussed.
