We treated an 81-year-old man with a pigmented lesion of his right iris.
The lesion was locally excised. Light microscopic examination, including
immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopic examination were performed.
The diagnosis was low-grade adenocarcinoma arising from the iris pigment
epithelium. Adenomatous proliferations of the iris pigment epithelium are
exceedingly rare and have not been shown to metastasize. Local resection is
recommended if the lesion exhibits growth.
