A small group of eyes with proliferative diabetic retinopathy develop
progressive macular traction characterized by partial vitreous detachment
with vitreo-retinal traction along the arcades and disc, retinal traction
lines extending through the fovea, and progressive visual loss. Vitrectomy
may be helpful in stabilizing selected eyes and actually improving visual
acuity.
